I run Windows 10 1803. When Windows Update prompted me to install KB4462933, I did; upon rebooting I found my sound devices all registered "code 39" in the Device Manager. I spent an hour blaming the botched Intel update but my device doesn't use Intel sound and the driver wasn't present on my device.
Finally, it turned out to be a small registry tweak. Here's the guide:
